BIRMINGHAM Community Safety Partnership and West Midlands Police are pleased to announce 36,000 fewer crimes in Birmingham, last year compared to three years ago.
Birmingham Community Safety Partnership is made up of a number of agencies including West Midlands Police and Birmingham City Council. The partnership primarily focussed on reducing specific crimes such as robbery, burglary and vehicle crime across Birmingham and providing residents with advice on how to keep themselves and their belongings safe.
Over the last three years personal robbery has reduced by 37% from 5,691 to 3,581, burglary is down by over 36% from 12,170 to 7,703 and theft from a motor vehicle is down by over 28% from 13,949 to 9,966.
Last year, the partnership launched a successful marketing campaign, ‘United Streets of Birmingham’, to encourage people who live and work in Birmingham to ‘unite’ with each other, the police and other agencies to help make Birmingham even safer.
Malcolm Coal, chair of the partnership, said: "Even though crime is falling, we should still always consider the security of our properties and own safety. Some of our crime reduction successes are due to us all being more cautious by reducing the opportunities for crime to occur. We are still keen to continue encouraging everyone to take crime prevention seriously."
