Best Bar None - Taxi Campaign

Taxis carrying the city’s Best Bar None logo – the licensed trade’s Oscars – will be seen around the streets of Birmingham this month to promote the scheme.

Best Bar None encourages social responsibility among licensees by rewarding good management, providing a safe and enjoyable environment for customers, discouraging binge-drinking and helping to prevent alcohol related crime.

Main trade sponsor Bacardi Brown-Forman Brands will be on hand to launch the fleet. Director for External Affairs Bruce Ray said: “We are proud to be sponsors of the Birmingham Best Bar None awards. As a premium spirits company with globally renowned brands, we welcome the opportunity to work with the trade in areas of responsible retailing and customer safety to ensure that customers can enjoy our brands in comfortable and safe surroundings.

“When Birmingham City Council and its partners approached us to be sponsors we were impressed with their commitment and passion towards their city and improving standards within the trade. We look forward to being part of the award event, rewarding those licensees who have proven they go above and beyond in areas of responsible retailing.”

Councillor Ayoub Khan, Cabinet Member for Local Services and Community Safety, said: “There’s been a fantastic response so far, with more than 130 venues expressing an interest. The competition will help secure the city’s growing reputation for having some of the safest pubs, bars and nightclubs in the country.”

Assessments are currently taking place and the liveried cabs will be around Birmingham for the rest of this month. Short-listing will take place on 14 July and the winners will be announced at a glittering ceremony at the ICC in September. Media partner BRMB will also be running a listeners’ vote from the short-list and this will take place from 4th to 17th August.

Birmingham City Council is running the scheme in conjunction with West Midlands Police and West Midlands Fire Service, and with the support of the British Institute of Innkeepers and the Midlands Beer and Pub Association.
