Hall Green’s Partnership Approach to Tackling Domestic Violence

Hall Green District will be launching a domestic violence campaign this month, in a bid to raise awareness and offer support to victims.

A citywide poster for domestic abuse will launch the campaign this week, carrying the slogan “Today’s Domestic, Tomorrow’s Murder?

Further campaign actions for the district, which includes Brandwood, Billesley and Hall Green, will follow this month and be developed during the year. These will include posters, stickers, pocket-sized survival cards with advice for emergencies and training sessions for district staff. Some elements, such as the posters, will also target perpetrators.

Devised by its Local Delivery Group (LDG) for community safety, the Hall Green District Domestic Abuse campaign will highlight the importance of early advice and support, preventative action and raising general awareness.

The district will be working with local staff, Police and partnership groups to raise awareness of domestic violence and promote the range of support to survivors of abuse.

Police figures show that there were 836 incidents of domestic abuse from February 05 to January 06, in Hall Green District so tackling this crime is one of the local priorities.

Also some reports indicate that women may suffer 35 incidents before making a report to the Police, so raising awareness of earlier opportunities to provide help or advice is one of the campaign aims.

Hall Green District Chair, Councillor Neville Summerfield said: “Domestic Violence is an issue our district takes very seriously. Our campaign, developed by the District Local Delivery Group (LDG) aims to raise greater awareness of the issues involved with staff and will encourage more people to seek help.  With this partnership campaign, we want perpetrators to know they are being targeted and victims to know support networks are there.”

Inspector Warren Hines from West Midlands Police added: “As police officers, we intervene in domestic abuse situation every day, but we understand that the cycle of violence may have started before the police are ever called. It is important therefore that we make every effort to provide as much information to the public to access support and advice services as quickly as possible, so that people can find help sooner.”
