As a result a “Stay Safe” package of resources has been produced to be presented in PSHE lessons. It has also been possible to design a “Stay Safe” conference targeting young people in year 9, 10 and 11. It is envisaged that the conferences will run during collapsed timetable days and will involve a variety of workshops delivered free of charge by professionals involved in the community safety arena. Workshops will run for approximately one hour and the school can choose from a range of workshops which best meets the needs of young people attending their school or living in a particular area of the city. Workshops available include: |
Team Challenge: an opportunity for young people to work as a team and understand the importance of co-operation and communication.
Your Choice on the Road: West Midlands Fire Service deliver a hard hitting message in regards to the consequence of stealing motor vehicles and driving them in a dangerous manner.
Safer Surfing: West Midlands Police offer a session in informing young people as to how they can remain safe whilst surfing the web.
One Knife, One Life: West Midlands Police use a powerful DVD to stimulate discussion regarding the consequences of knife crime and the impact it has on victims, families, friends and perpetrators.
Substance Misuse: will receive an input from a locally based substance misuse advisory service regarding the damaging effects of substance misuse.
Value the Victim: Education Welfare Support Service deliver lessons in regard to how best young people can respect one another and more importantly, think about their actions before becoming involved in bullying or committing criminal offences against others.
Safer Travel: the Safer Travel Team offer advice regarding travelling safely around Birmingham on the public transport network.
The Birmingham Community Safety Partnership is flexible in its approach to schools. We can offer workshops to meet the particular needs of specific areas of the city.
