The awards are organised by the Birmingham Anti-Social Behaviour Unit at Birmingham Community Safety Partnership (BCSP) which includes Birmingham City Council, West Midlands Police, West Midlands Fire Service and other statutory organisations.
We want to make sure that people who do stand up for their communities, get the recognition that they deserve. By celebrating the actions of the people who have taken a stand, we can encourage others to do the same and together, we can have a huge impact across the city.
You can nominate anyone that you know – your mother, brother, neighbour or friend, as long as they live or work in Birmingham.
Nominations can be made under the following three categories;
1. Young people (up to 18 years old), 2. Adult individuals or 3. Community groups
People can be nominated for a variety of reasons including:
• Being a witness and giving evidence in court.
• Setting up a resident’s or tenant’s groups to deal with noise or neighbour problems.
• Organising a clean up of rubbish or dumped goods in the area.
• Organising events for young people to discourage anti-social behaviour.
• Helping clean up graffiti on a community building.
• Supporting others to take a stand against anti-social behaviour.
• Turning away from anti-social behaviour to become someone who is an asset to their community.
• Campaigned in their local area for change.
It is important that you state which category you are making your nomination under and that you provide as much detail as possible, when completing the form. If you need help completing your form, call 0121 464 6560.
The closing date for nominations is Tuesday 12th August 2008.
Winners
One winner will be selected from each category. All short-listed nominations will be invited to attend an awards ceremony at the Council House.
The awards are sponsored by Birmingham Mail and so all nominees will be expected to take part in any
associated publicity.
Nominees must live or work in Birmingham.
The only way we can ensure that communities are the kind of places that we all want to live in, is if we take action against the minority who make others’ lives a misery. There is a role for everyone in saying enough is enough.
