TOGETHER ACTION AREA - Getting to the heart of Anti-Social Behaviour

Crack houses, drug dealing, burglaries and prostitution in the Hodge Hill constituency are to be targeted to improve the lives of the communities which have been blighted by antisocial behaviour.

The Hodge Hill Safer, Stronger Communities forum made up of representatives from the council, police, housing associations, Youth Offending Service and other Partners will outline their commitment on Thursday 21 September at the official re-launch of the District’s Safer Estates protocol, that will emphasise greater partnership working to improve results

The local community and partner agencies have identified a significant number of  ‘hotspot’s having high levels crime and antisocial behaviour. These issues will be tackled as a priority over the coming months.

The ‘hotspots’ follow a range of meetings where residents, police, housing associations and council have come together to try and make a difference to Hodge Hill and reduce the amount of anti-social behaviour across the constituency.  Following these meetings, a range of initiatives have been put in place which cover a whole range of anti-social activity.

Action will include:

  • More Drugs enforcement action
  • Burglary reduction initiatives that will include target hardening and support for elderly/vulnerable and repeat victims
  • Enforcement  and Intervention around issues of Prostitution

A dedicated officer is working with local agencies to tackle Asb problems in the hotspot areas.  In cases involving young people they are working closely with the Youth Offending Service who provides assessment and appropriate interventions for young people to prevent further anti-social behaviour.

Hodge Hill was announced as a TOGETHER ACTION AREA by the Home Office in October. The District is targeting the worst 50 cases of anti-social behaviour and is using a full range of powers to ensure that action against perpetrators is swift and ensure that residents of Hodge Hill have confidence that anti-social behaviour is being tackled in their community.

Rob James, Hodge Hill Constituency Director said: “I am delighted to be part of this initiative which requires the support of a number of key people, including the Police and the Local Community. My officers are working extremely hard to improve the quality of life in Hodge Hill and tackling all forms of anti social behaviour including Drug related issues is one of our priorities”

Chief Superintendent, Steve Rowell of Stechford Police Station added: “This is an excellent opportunity for Partners to work together in tackling matters of most concern to local communities. It has my full support.”
