Safe & Clean Neighbourhoods

Pan-Birmingham Priority Group (PBPG) Safer and Cleaner Neighbourhoods is concerned with a wide range of issues incorporating:

The group have overall responsibility for co-ordinating work to ensure that the Public Service Agreement (PSA) targets for the British Crime Survey Comparator Crime in 2007/08 are reached with an overall reduction of crime of 20%, (achieved and measured by reduction in 7 crime indicator areas).

Additionally, the PBPG has responsibility for delivering against a range of Local Public Service Agreements including reducing violent crime and reducing accidental fire and arson.  The Safer and Cleaner Neighbourhoods PBPG aims to effectively use the joint expertise and resources available to the Group and the partner organisations to achieve safer and cleaner neighbourhoods.

In doing so, the group aims to promote effective partnership working at the local neighbourhood level, ensuring that local residents are involved to create sustainable solutions to local issues.

The main objectives are:

  • To co-ordinate work to achieve a National PSA target in overall reductions of crime.
  • To ensure that Local Delivery Groups are assisted in developing and delivering effective programmes of joined-up interventions that contribute to the work of the Group.
  • To build on the work previously undertaken in support of the achievement of the City’s PSAs relating to domestic burglary and fire prevention.
  • To assist in the achievement of relevant LPSAs relating to street robbery, fire reduction, and safe and clean public places
  • To reduce anti-social behaviour, including alcohol related crime
  • To reduce visible drug dealing
  • To prevent accidental fire and arson
  • To reduce environmental crime
  • To reduce vehicle crime
