ACTIVITIES (update written by the Youth project)
Community clean-ups - June - July 2006
Over the last few weeks we've been out and about again with some of our growing number of friends. We completed another 2 clean-ups and we made quite a dashing sight in our fluorescent jackets! Saturday 10th June was a baking hot day yet we made good headway and cleared a mound of litter, bottles, cans and some larger objects too. We were working along the canal bridge opposite Yardley Wood Bus Garage.
We went back to this site on 20th June to clear some more of the litter. We'd like to do something about the graffiti on the bridge at this site too and possibly paint a mural to deter the graffiti from reappearing.
Also visited the BMX track as well as Warstock Allotments. We have been invited to lend a hand at the allotments clearing some of their space and we'll be going along to the site on Tuesday 4th July. We have the opportunity to work on our own allotment if the young people feel they would like to take one on for the longer term.
Environmental Survey
Young people were out and about at the Happy Valley Festival last Saturday doing an environmental survey and telling folks about the project.
Community Pride
Saturday, 1st July, will feature an Art Workshop based at Warstock Community Centre between 2pm and 4pm. Feel free to pop along if you would like to see what we're getting up to or maybe even lend a hand! We'll be working on our painted panels, making a mock up of the sculpture for Billesley we're designing, and doing self-portraits.
We'll also have a display of some of our work on the ‘Seven Wonders of Billesley’.
Achievement
We want to present young people with certificates for their hard work. Don't forget to put the date for our Open Day in your diary. This will take place on Saturday 15th July, 10am - 1pm. The young people will be giving a presentation about the project. There will be examples of their art work and displays, plus refreshments.
