A letter was sent to 150 properties around Northfield offering a crime and fire home safety survey from West Midlands Police and West Midlands Fire Service Officers. WMFS received more than 45% uptake in the offer and completed the surveys which included the checking of electrical safety, storage of flammables, escape routes and fitting free smoke alarms where necessary. West Midlands Fire Service had a total of 16 referrals. West Midlands Police Officers visited around 25 of the 150 households with a total of 13 referrals, completing surveys around possible burglary entry routes and vulnerable areas of weakness around the home. Tenancy support was also on hand and had a total of 3 referrals. The exercise began on Thursday 25th May 2006 and ran for 3 days. (5hrs per day).
