Campaign Against Racism and Drugs

The next 12 months will see young people challenge perceptions and stereotypes in a campaign against racism in Northfield Constituency.

Working with schools, community centres and youth clubs, young people can get involved in a range of activities to tackle racism.  They include photography, performance, poetry and art and grpahic design workshops.  Youngsters will also have a say in the subsequent publicity campaign.

A competition will be held to design an anti-racism logo, with the winning design featured in campaign publicity.  Northfield Constituency is also involved in the Holistic Innovative Approaches to Health (HIAH) project, a pan-Birmingham young person's drug treatment service funded by Birmingham Drug Action Team.

HIAH offers a programme for people aged up to 18 that includes a complete holistic assessment, talk therapy, drug awareness information , health education and complementary therapies.  Northfield employed an additional worker to add to local provision, including awareness-raising initiatives in local schools which have included drop-in and one-to-one sessions, information packs and activities to encourage young people to focus their attention away from drugs.
