Perry Barr Constituency stretches northwards from the inner city to the City boundary with Sandwell and Walsall Boroughs. The Constituency is made up of 4 wards: Oscott, Perry Barr, Handsworth Wood and Lozells and East Handsworth. The Safer & Stronger Communities Key Priority Working Group (KPWG) for Perry Barr Constituency has been operational since March 2005 with senior strategic representation from the following agencies: |

Work Carried out to Date:
The Perry Barr Safer & Stronger Communities Key Priority Working Group (KPWG) is part of the Constituency Local Area Agreement. The priorities for this year have been agreed by the constituency strategic partnership.
They are – to reduce the most serious violence, including tackling domestic violence, gang and gun-related crime and violence in public places; Reduce re-offending through the improved management of offenders and effective treatment of drug and alcohol using offenders; To prevent the development of violent extremism; to tackle serious acquisitive crime, increase public and investor confidence in neighbourhoods by dealing with local crime, disorder and anti-social behaviour and securing cleaner, greener and safer neighbourhoods and public spaces.
Five sub-groups have been set up to tackle these issues and action plans are being developed.
Neighbourhood Policing
Neighbourhood policing was introduced at the beginning of September. Public meetings are held every month with the aim of letting members of the public have their say about what affects their quality of life and set the priorities for their local police teams and officers from partner organisations. The priorities identified by the public are dealt with at 4 ward-based Neighbourhood Tasking Groups (NTGS) and the results are fed back at the public meetings. Safer Estates
This group takes it’s referrals from all the agencies who attend. It is designed to deal with individuals and/or premises which are the cause of anti-social behaviour in whatever form that might take. Actions taken include letters to parents of young people who have been anti-social, the development of Acceptable Behaviour Contracts (ABCs), through Anti-Social Behaviour Orders (ASBOs) to evicting persistent offenders.
