Yardley

Yardley Constituency consists of four wards – Sheldon, South Yardley, Stechford and Yardley North and Acocks Green.

As a Constituency Yardley has seen some significant reduction in crime over the last year, nearly fifteen percent in total! However as a group the LDG is not complacent and is developing a partnership approach to furthering this success through targeted interventions.  An audit recently has been undertaken of the challenges that the Constituency faces in relation community safety and it now falls upon the group to review this work and also deal with emerging threats such as robbery and Burglary.

Action plans are being reviewed and as always the group is keen to take local concerns into account when they are planning.

Current Actions are around the following topics:

  • Operation Cube-It (Removal of untaxed vehicles)
  • Anti-Social Behaviour
  • Piloting new approaches to tackling domestic violence
  • Burglary
  • Arson

Groups helping to tackle these problems include:

  • Birmingham City Council
  • West Midlands Police
  • West Midlands Fire Service
  • Youth Services
  • Youth Offending Service
  • Housing
  • Regulatory Services

These groups all meet regularly to plan their interventions as a collective and indeed some of the work, such as that going on around domestic violence and the usage of civil orders is being viewed with interest not just across Birmingham, but also from fellow colleagues around the UK.

The Constituency Community Safety Coordinator is based at Sheldon Fire Station on Garretts Green Lane and can be contacted for further information on the workings of the Yardley LDG and also funding for other projects.
