Domestic Violence

Domestic violence is one of the major crime and disorder challenges that Birmingham faces.

Domestic Violence

It is a pernicious and high volume violent crime with devastating personal consequences for victims and children.

In some areas of our City, domestic violence accounts for 10% of calls that the police receive. In other areas it accounts for more than half of all violent crime. Despite these alarming figures, domestic violence remains significantly under-reported. What we can be sure of is that domestic violence causes significant damage to women, to children, to families, to communities and to the social fabric of our city.

Within the Partnership, our activities to combat domestic violence are concentrated on five objectives. Many of these objectives align with  the growing number of performance indicators that now exist around domestic violence and which need to be addressed both strategically and locally.

SAFETY & JUSTICE
Ensuring that individual perpetrators are held accountable for their actions through a co-ordinated justice response that does not compromise victim and children safety.

SAFETY & SUPPORT
Ensuring the safety and support needs of those experiencing domestic violence in Birmingham are met through well resourced, safe and accessible services.

PREVENTION & EARLY INTERVENTION
Ensuring that in every aspect of Birmingham life, domestic violence is confronted and challenged and that victims of domestic violence are able to access support earlier.

CHILDREN & YOUNG PEOPLE
Ensuring that children and young people exposed to domestic violence have access to services they need.
Ensuring that all children and young people have the skills to build relationships based on respect and equality.

CO-ORDINATED INTER-AGENCY RESPONSES
Ensuring that Birmingham achieves a co-ordinated, co-operative and comprehensive response to domestic violence through strengthened inter-agency working.

The demands on state and society to tackle domestic violence are vast and diverse and demonstrate the need for multi-agency collaboration like no other. BCSP is committed to working in partnership with Birmingham Inter-Agency Domestic Violence Forum to address domestic violence within the City.
