An Evaluation of the Birmingham F.I.R.E Project

Birmingham Fire Reduction Partnership

The Birmingham Youth Project consists of two specific interventions delivered by West Midlands Fire Service (WMFS). FIRE (fire, intervention, reparation and education) which originated in Coventry, worked purely with young people who were referred via Coventry Youth Offending Team.

As at May 2006, four projects had been completed in Coventry with 40 young people completing the course, the intervention was showing a 70% non-recidivism rate.

This document examines and evaluates the process used to deliver this intervention and the effectiveness of the intervention.

The methodology used to carry out this process is the SARA process, recognised as part of Problem Orientated Policing.

In order to obtain the information required to evaluate this intervention, brief interviews were carried out with key stakeholders in the process; along with various requests for quantitative information, desktop research collected throughout the time period being examined and qualitative information received from teachers immediately following the courses.
